Right now my dilemma is to whether to hire a SEO (Search engine optimization) expert or spend the money on developers? 

I know enough about SEO to manage the show, but not sure whether I'd get any significant and measurable delta from hiring a professional? Is there more beyond onsite key word optimization, listing in search engines by submitting XML site maps, placement in directories and back link requests to like minded sites? Will they either bring "magic" ideas which I am not aware or do the things that I already know much better? 

On the other hand, if I handle it myself, I can channel the resources to hire a software development team by using places like Rent a Coder or Elance. With this team, and leveraging a framework like Ruby on Rails, I think we can launch another site. 

I think I'll ponder over this for a while as it is not an easy decision. 

Do you have any suggestions or ideas for me?
